Abstract

Microplastics are aquatic environmental pollutants that can accumulate in aquatic organisms and enter the food chain. Lake Limboto is an aquatic ecosystem utilised by the local community and serves as a habitat for various fish species, including the Manggaba'i fish (*Glossogobius giuris*). This study aimed to analyse microplastics in Manggaba'i fish from Lake Limboto, categorised by length-based size groups. The study sample consisted of 20 fish divided into two size groups—10–12 cm and 12.5–14 cm—with 10 fish in each group. Sample preparation involved processing the fish digestive tracts with 30% H₂O₂ and 0.05 M FeSO₄ solutions; the samples were incubated for 24 hours, heated in a water bath at 75°C for 30 minutes, filtered using vacuum filtration, and examined under a microscope. Microplastic abundance was determined based on the number of particles found in each fish size group. The results showed microplastics in Manggaba'i fish, with an abundance of 0.2 particles/individual in the 10–12 cm size group and 0.3 particles/individual in the 12.5–14 cm size group.
